IRTE (Institute of Road Transport Engineers) is an independent body providing support and guidance to transport engineers and technicians, and is one of the most respected names in UK transport today.
Recognised as the impartial voice of the industry, IRTE believes in promoting competence, best practice and safety in the workplace, as well as recognising and addressing the needs of those working in the transport industry. As a result of this, IRTE and Freight Transport Association (FTA) are now working together to deliver IRTE Workshop Accreditation, an independent accreditation scheme designed to measure the procedures of independent workshops against those set by major industry stakeholders.
This programme enables maintenance providers to demonstrate their competence and excellence whilst allowing operators and manufacturers to choose workshops that have been independently assessed to IRTE’s quality assured standards.
Under IRTE Workshop Accreditation, FTA engineers audit commercial vehicle workshops to assess their compliance in key areas such as premises, equipment, technical and clerical staff, management, documentation, quality and appearance.
The scheme provides an independent benchmark enabling easy and informed decision-making from customers, whilst also increasing the overall standard of vehicle repair.
"With around 80 per cent of maintenance provision for LGVs outsourced, this is a logical step that will yield excellent results for the industry"David Wells, Chief Executive, FTA
