Meet the Judges.

 

Caroline Hamilton MBE CEng MIMechE 

Chief Executive, Safety Assessment Federation Limited 

Professional Background: Caroline’s passion for engineering was ignited during her childhood, spent on sites across the UK with her father, a former welder and Mechanical Commissioning Manager. A Chartered Mechanical Engineer, Caroline joined the Safety Assessment Federation, SAFed, in March 2020. Her career spans manufacturing and nuclear decommissioning consultancy, providing her with extensive consultative, problem-solving, and technical insights. At SAFed, she aims to elevate the role of the Engineering Surveyor and increase pathways to competence. Caroline is also dedicated to improving the visibility of SAFed within general engineering, similar to how ATOL and ABTA are recognised in the travel sector. In 2024, Caroline was honoured with an MBE for services to Business and Engineering.

Dr. Emma Wilcox CEnv 

Chief Executive, Society for the Environment 

Professional Background: Emma has been the Chief Executive of the Society for the Environment since 2015, the Chartered Organisation responsible for registering environmental professionals. A Chartered Environmentalist and Fellow of IOM3, Emma is also a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute. She graduated from the Goldman Sachs 10k Small Business Programme and chairs the IOM3 Sustainability Development Group (SDG). Emma also serves on the UK Government’s Green Apprenticeships Advisory Panel (GAAP) and the Board of the Future Water Association.

Designate Executive Director, Society of Operations Engineers 

Professional Background: With over 21 years in engineering within Professional Engineering Institutions and corporate environments, Emma is a seasoned leader in driving organisational efficiency and growth. As the Designate Executive Director of the Society of Operations Engineers, she specialises in process reengineering, strategic planning, and cultivating high-performing teams. Emma’s commitment to optimising operations and fostering continuous improvement makes her a formidable presence in the engineering sector.

Robin Bates MSOE MBES 

Membership, Registration, and Professional Standards Lead, Society of Operations Engineers 

Professional Background: With over 20 years of professional development within engineering, Robin currently oversees the CPD approval scheme, SOE’s academic panel, and course accreditations. He plays a pivotal role in maintaining SOE's relationship with the Engineering Council and Society for the Environment, ensuring compliance with national standards. Robin's extensive experience includes roles at the Institute of Physics, the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers, and the Royal Town Planning Institute, where he enhanced member engagement and professional development. 

As a judge for the SOE Safety and Resilience in Engineering Awards, Robin brings his expertise in qualifications and standards management to evaluate contributions to enhancing safety and efficiency in the industry. His dedication to advancing professional development and upholding rigorous standards is reflected in his contributions to the engineering community.
