The IRTE Northern Centre October CPD presentation was given by Jason Kairies the Tachograph Operations Manager at Skillray Transport Services.
With over 40 members and guests in attendance Jason began his presentation by speaking about Skillray and the services that they can provide for the transport operator and the authorised tachograph workshop facility.
This service covers the supply of all the necessary components, workshop equipment and specialist approved training for those engaged in the transport industry.
The speaker then moved onto up-to-date tachograph legislation, and the implications to operators and workshops as new mandatory requirements for fitment and operational changes come into place.
Jason then spoke about the second generation of SMART version 2 tachograph units, and he began by covering the legalities before moving onto the different functions that are incorporated within the unit and the requirements that it must meet to comply with international operations.
The technical aspects were then covered, and this included the correct installation of the head unit and its gearbox sender unit along with the setting up of the new GPS functions that are now incorporated within the system and finally the new calibration procedures and the mandatory sealing systems.
The new functions that are installed on the unit for both the driver and the operator to use were then covered and this was aided by the speaker’s visual presentation that showed those present how to operate the function buttons on the tachograph head unit and how to read the print outs that it generates.
The final part of the speaker’s presentation covered compliance and the equipment now available to the transport regulators and enforcement agencies to now undertake remote enforcement operations prior to stopping a vehicle to undertake a full compliance audit of the driver’s records.
Those present were then given a view of the penalty fines in place throughout Europe for non-compliance issues before a question-and-answer session brought the evenings presentation to an end.
IRTE Northern Centre committee member Richard Davies then formerly thanked the speaker on behalf of the Northern Centre for his highly informative presentation.
